We will be holding a Riders Clinic at Erik Goetzinger on Thursday, June 23rd from 6:30 to 8:00 PM.
Cost $10.00
All proceeds from the clinic will be donated to the Race for Life fund and the Children’s Hospital!
The Clinic will be instructed by Josh Pedersen long time expert rider in 19-27 expert class and Cnag rider from Nanaimo.
With the help of some of our local expert riders you will improve your gate, riding style and passing skills.
Come on out and help raise money for the Race for Life and get some great training to become a better rider!!!!!!!
Please sign up at the Moto Shed or talk to Trisha Grecht for more info.
Parents, Please Read!!!
Dear Parents:
Please take the time to read this information as it's very important.
1. Your child MUST have a parent or designated guardian at the track from the time they arrive at the track, until they leave. In the event they get injured or if their bike has any problem, your child needs you there to care for them. If you have to leave the track for any reason please make sure someone you trust knows you're leaving and knows to watch out for your child.
2. Your child MUST have the following apparel when they are riding or racing the track on race nights. This is taken directly from the ABA Rule Book. From this point on, if a racer doesn't have the appropriate riding apparel they Will Not Be Allowed On The Track.
Please take the time to read this information and make sure your child has what they need to race. If you have any questions about gear or how to "buckle" up a helmet, please ask. That's what the volunteers are their for.
A. Apparel
1. All riders must wear helmets with a permanent strap attached; snaps are not allowed. Helmets must have sufficient padding and be of good quality. The ABA highly recommends a full-face helmet or a helmet that covers the ears.
2. All riders must wear enclosed shoes, which are sufficient to protect the rider’s feet.
3. It is recommended that riders wear long pants. Loose fitting short pants made of tear-resistant material are permitted and used in combination with a one- piece knee and shin guard with a rigid surface. There must be no exposed skin above the knee or below the shin guard extending to above the ankle. The short pants fabric must have a minimum of 3 inches of doubled up excess material, without stretching the fabric. This shall be measured by pinching the fabric between the index finger and thumb. All combinations of shorts with knee and shin guards are subject to the approval of the ABA and/or Track Operator.
4. It is recommended that riders wear long sleeved shirts. Short sleeved shirts and sufficient elbow protection is allowable subject to the approval of the ABA and/or Track Operator
Big, Huge Race Weekend!
2011 Work Party and Other Information
Work Party Information
The 2011 season is just around the corner with our first racing taking place on Tuesday, May 3rd. To help get the track ready to race we will be holding a work party on Saturday, April 9th beginning at 9:00 AM. The project will be to add dirt to the start hill and re-shape the first corner, along with general grooming and repair of the track. The more people that help the more can be done. Lunch will be provided. Even if you can only give a couple of hours, any help will be greatly appreciated.
Changes to 1/2 Track Program
In order to accommodate the requirement to have our 1/2 tracker racers under the track insurance and the ever increasing cost of awards that are given out to our 1/2 trackers the following changes will be made for 2011. A membership fee of $20.00 will be assessed along with a race fee of $2.00 per race.
Vancouver Island Challenge Series
The four Vancouver Island tracks have came up with a new format for the Vancouver Island Challenge Series. Each track will hold a qualifying race during the year and the finals will be held at Coal Hills BMX. The Provincial points system will still be used, however VIC Champions will be crowned for Novice, Intermediate and Expert classes in each age group instead of Age Only Champions as in years past. To add another incentive to attend each qualifying race, each track will be awarding Dog Tags of a different colour. To get the full set you'll need to race each qualifier. Stay tuned for the complete format and rules.

Erik Goetzinger BMX General Meeting / AGM / Planning Meeting
Marie Davidson
May 3, 1942 - December 12, 2010
Marie Davidson, age 68, passed away at peace and without pain in her home surrounded by family on December 12, 2010 following a courageous battle with lung cancer.
...Born on May 3, 1942, in York County, Toronto, Ontario with no real roots of her own, Marie lived her life in service to others including her children and grandchildren; her many foster kids and their families; and thousands of BMX riders and Sea Cadets all over British Columbia and the Pacific Northwest. Marie had a special gift of being able to bring out the best in people through unconditional acceptance, genuine caring, and understanding. In her generous spirit, her heart and home were always open to anyone in need. Her fondness for all things in nature included a love for bears, her special friends the raccoons (Ricky’s), and most of all her cats, Ms. Pootie’s Friend and Mr. Luke.
Marie was known as Nan, Nanny, Nanny-Marie, Mom, Mammy, Wilma, Gree, Mare, Maria, Mary, and Queen Marie to family and friends. For the past 40 years, Marie served as a foster “mom” to more than 140 children. Since 1992, she has been instrumental in raising over $250,000 for the BC Children’s Hospital through annual ABA BMX Race for Life events. In her words, “it is all about kids helping kids”. Marie was an Honorary Member of the Branch 256 Legion; a director of the Navy League of Canada Nanaimo Branch; chairperson for the Canadian ABA BMX Tracks; and, President of the Nanaimo BMX Association. In recognition for her dedication and commitment, Marie received numerous awards. Most recently, she was inducted into the BMX Hall of Fame and a recipient of the Rotary Paul Harris Society Service Award.
Marie is survived by her sons Michael (Katherine), Robert, and Joseph; and, five grandchildren, Jason, Brett, Ryan, James, and Trevor. She is further survived by two step grandchildren Jacqui and Elliot Wyman; her daughter-in-law Anna Davidson; and the many foster children and their families.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 8th, 2011 in the Auditorium at the Beban Park Community Centre, 2300 Bowen Road, Nanaimo, BC.
A memorial fund has been established in her name with the BC Children's’ Hospital. Donations can be made online www.bcchf.ca or your gift can be mailed to: BC Children’s Hospital Foundation, c/o Tribute Program, 938 West 28th Avenue, Vancouver, BC V5Z 4H4.
We would like to thank the staff of the VIHA Community Nurses & Home Care and the Red Cross for enabling us to fulfill Marie’s desire to remain at home. Heartfelt thanks to Jan McIntyre, Home Care Nurse, for her compassionate care.
“The only thing you take with you when you’re gone is what you leave behind.”

Thank You!
The 2010 racing season at Erik Goetzinger BMX is in the books and what a final race it was. We had 15 motos and 4 half trackers come out to take part in the season finally and some great racing took place in all categories.
Prior to racing Autumn Spencer was recognized for moving up to the "girls" class after earning her 8th win as a Novice the week before.
One of the most exciting races of the night took place in the 11 Novice class where Blayre Paddock was looking for her 8th win as a Novice. It came down to the 3rd round and Blayre won at the line for the overall win and a move up to the "girls" class.
The 2010 season was a lot of fun and this could only have happened with the help of exceptional volunteers and parents who bring out the racers week after week.
Erik Goetzinger BMX would like to thank everyone who was involved in racing in 2010 and we look forward to see everyone back in 2011.

Welcome to the Summer of 2010! Hopefully we get some true Summer weather over the next few weeks. Anyway, here is some important information regarding the Race For Life and a couple of other items.
1. We will be holding our annual Race For Life tomorrow night, with sign-up from 6:00 to 6:30 PM. It is a double points race and we will be running the ABA transfer system for he event. The cost of this race is normally $20.00 per rider but thanks to the generosity of IRIS, The Visual Group we will be charging $10.00 and they will cover the other $10.00 per rider. There is no family discount for this race.
Remember to have your Race For Life donations turned in as well.
2. Round 6 & 7 of the ABA Canadian National Series will take place at Nanaimo BMX July 16 through 18. Plan to race this event, or at the very least come out and watch BMX racing at it's best.
3. Pro 1 BMX Supercamp will take place at Nanaimo BMX beginning on Monday, July 12th and running through Wednesday, July 14th. For more information contact Randy Little at randy@nanaimobmx.com.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the track.
June 1, BMX News
1. Goetzinger BMX wants to invite you out for a fun night at Deez Bar & Grill in Qualicum Beach Friday June 4th at 5:00-7:00 pm!
Every week at Deez they have a very popular event called the Meat Draw and we have the opportunity to sell tickets to the patrons and fundraise for the track.
All proceeds go to improving the track, year end party and rewards for the track members.
So come on out and have a social visit with your BMX family and help us raise money for the track! If you have any questions contact Trisha Grecht at rgrecht@shaw.ca.
Bring yourself, your friends and your family!
2. Due to a scheduling conflict at the park where the Squamish BMX track is located the Provincial Finals will now be held the weekend of September 25th and 26th.
3. In other BMX News, McArthur Island BMX in Kamloops, BC had a fire as a result of vandals. Their moto shed was completely destroyed and as a result will be unable to run their gate practice tonight. Track operator Collen Botchar wanted everyone to know that they will get things back in running order shortly and will definitely be in tip top shape for their national on June 11-13, 2010.
