Vancouver Island Challenge Points

Ok everyone, below are the age classes and points for riders who have raced in at least 3 VIC qualifying events.  Remember, in order to be crowned as a Vancouver Island Challenge Champion you must race the final too.

If there is any questions about the points please email Gerald Trees at gtrees@shaw.ca

OK, there is one change that needs to be made, Adicus Bird is now 8 years old so is not in the 7 year-old age group.

August 16, 2010

It's been a while since our last news update so we've got a lot to cover.  Make sure you read it all.

Track improvements

This past Saturday a few BMX dads, organized by a BMX mom, reworked the step-up jump in the second straight that's been giving everyone trouble since it was built before the season started.  Jamie Fretz organized the equipment and Richard Fretz, Brad Paddock and Rod Spencer spent a hot day doing the work.  The jump looks great (see the photos in the photo section) and according to the Paddock kids, it's fun to ride.

Vancouver Island Challenge Finals

This coming Saturday, August 21st,  Erik Goetzinger will be holding the Vancouver Island Challenge Finals with sign-up between 11:00 and 12:00.

This is a single district point race and every ABA racer can race this event for district points and awards of the day.

VIC champions will be crowned at the end of the race.

We were hoping to have the points through VIC #4 posted well before the race, however the points tabulator has not received the race results from VIC #3 in Victoria.  Once this information is received the points will be posted ASAP.

June 21, 2010

Welcome to the Summer of 2010!  Hopefully we get some true Summer weather over the next few weeks.  Anyway, here is some important information regarding the Race For Life and a couple of other items.

1.  We will be holding our annual Race For Life tomorrow night, with sign-up from 6:00 to 6:30 PM.  It is a double points race and we will be running the ABA transfer system for he event.  The cost of this race is normally $20.00 per rider but thanks to the generosity of IRIS, The Visual Group we will be charging $10.00 and they will cover the other $10.00 per rider.  There is no family discount for this race.

Remember to have your Race For Life donations turned in as well.

2.  Round 6 & 7 of the ABA Canadian National Series will take place at Nanaimo BMX July 16 through 18.  Plan to race this event, or at the very least come out and watch BMX racing at it's best.

3.  Pro 1 BMX Supercamp will take place at Nanaimo BMX beginning on Monday, July 12th and running through Wednesday, July 14th.  For more information contact Randy Little at randy@nanaimobmx.com.

4.  Finally, for those of you who have an iphone, ipod touch or the new ipad, the ABA has an app where you can access information on points, schedules and track locations.  It's free from the App Store.

We look forward to seeing everyone at the track.

June 1, BMX News

1.  Goetzinger BMX wants to invite you out for a fun night at Deez Bar & Grill in Qualicum Beach Friday  June 4th at 5:00-7:00 pm!

Every week at Deez they have a very popular event called the Meat Draw and we have the opportunity to sell tickets to the patrons and fundraise for the track.

All proceeds go to improving the track, year end party and rewards for the track members.

So come on out and have a social visit with your BMX family and help us raise money for the track!  If you have any questions contact Trisha Grecht at rgrecht@shaw.ca.

Bring yourself, your friends and your family!

2.  Due to a scheduling conflict at the park where the Squamish BMX track is located the Provincial Finals will now be held the weekend of September 25th and 26th.

3.  In other BMX News, McArthur Island BMX in Kamloops, BC had a fire as a result of vandals.  Their moto shed was completely destroyed and as a result will be unable to run their gate practice tonight.  Track operator Collen Botchar wanted everyone to know that they will get things back in running order shortly and will definitely be in tip top shape for their national on June 11-13, 2010.

May 17, 2010

It's hard to believe we've completed 3 races already and the 4th is tomorrow night, even if it's drizzling.  We've had great turn-outs and great racing so thank you all for the support.

This weekend is the Provincial Qualifier Weekend on the Island.  The schedule of events is as follows;

PCR #1 Saturday, May 22nd:  Greater Victoria BMX  Sign-up 9:00 - 9:45 AM
PCR #2 Saturday, May 22nd:  Nanaimo BMX              Sign-up 3:00 - 4:00 PM
PCR #3 Sunday, May 23rd:     Erik Goetzinger BMX   Sign-up 10:00 - 11:00 AM
PCR #4 Monday, May 24th:     Coal Hills BMX              Sign-up 12:00 - 1:00 PM

The cost for each race is $15.00 per rider and there is no family discount.

Each ABA track in British Columbia holds a series qualifying race and any racer with an ABA license can race any or all of the events.  If a racer wants a chance at being the Provincial Champion in their age class they must race at least 3 events and the finals.  If a racer competes in more then 3 events, their best 3 scores will be counted.

Remember you can race any or all of the events even if you don't plan on attending the series finals.

If you have any questions please send an email or ask us at the track.

Race #1 is in the books

The first race of the 2010 season is in the books.  We had 16 motos and one group of 1/2 trackers taking part in the first evening of racing.

Many of the racers had positive comments on all the work that had been done at the track prior to the beginning of the season and our amazing group of volunteers worked very hard to ensure the first night of racing was a success.

Our 6 novice class was the largest of the evening with 10 riders racing for a spot in the 8 rider main event.

The second race of the season will take place on Tuesday, May 4th, with sign-up taking place from 6:00 to 6:30 PM.

It's Almost Here!

Racing begins next week!

The 2010 racing season at Erik Goetzinger BMX starts next week.  We will start things off with our annual clinic and registration on Monday, April 26th.  Registration will from 6:00 to 6:30 PM and the clinic will begin at 6:30 PM.  Check your licenses and if it's expired then you can register on Monday as well.  The cost of the clinic will be $10.00 and that includes the race fee for the Tuesday night race.

Racing begins Tuesday, April 27th with registration taking place from 6:00 to 6:30 PM.  Racing will begin ASAP.  As this is our first race of the season it may take a little longer to get things going as there will be new people signing up so please be patient.  We now have a track phone (see the contact information on your right) where you can pre-register for the evenings race.  Leave your racers full name, license number, class (novice, intermediate, expert, girls, cruiser) and age.  Pre-registration by phone will end at 6:00 PM.

Finally, there will be a work party on Saturday, April 24th beginning at 9:00 AM.  There are a few areas of the track and facility that need some attention with a shovel and rake.  If you can spare some time, even an hour, it would be greatly appreciated.  Robert and Trisha Grecht have been living at the track the past couple of weeks (Robert actually did live at the track over the Easter weekend to watch over the machines that were used to make changes to the area) to get the track ready to race.  There have been many others who have come out to help during that time as well and we will be recognizing everyone who has put time in very shortly.  Thank you to everyone who has put time in and thank you in advance for coming out on Saturday.

Two Weeks

Racing at Erik Goetzinger BMX begins two weeks from tonight and those two weeks will go by very fast.  The track is looking great and 2010 will be the first year that an Air Ram gate system will be used at Erik Goetzinger BMX.

On Monday, April 26th we will be holding our annual riders clinic.  Registration will take place from 6:00 to 6:30 PM and the clinic will start at 6:30 PM.  Invite your friends and neighbors who may want to give racing a try.  The clinic will cost $10.00 and that includes the race fee for the Tuesday night race the next day.

Also new for 2010 will be a Pro-Am series for our older riders.  For more information click on the Pro-Am tab.

Thank You!

A BIG Thank You to Robert and his crew of volunteers who spent all day, today, preparing the track for cement work tomorrow.

There is still much work to be done and tomorrow, Saturday, April 3rd, will be very busy.  Any help that you can give, even if it's for an hour, would be appreciated.  Work will start about 8:00 AM.

Pictures of the changes and improvements will be posted by the end of the weekend so stay tuned.
